Parts and Spares:

  • Aldon Auto: Supplied my electric ignition set up, really impressed with this although a bit pricey at £86. If your running a Consul you need the Lucas LU149 kit. I also purchased my coil from here and that was much better value.
  • Autoglass - Autoglass managed to fit, but not supply my windscreen seals, if you've already got the seals and aren't in a hurry give them a ring. Despite the delay with mine they certainly put a lot of effort into the job.
  • Autorecycle - Like Golden days below I haven't got a web address for this firm, basically they are a small scrap dealer/second hand parts dealer for Ford vehicles. Brett is based in Morpeth but he will mail order parts I believe - he used to drive a MK2 so must be a good guy: Phone 01670 519299.
  • B&G Auto spares, A Merseyside based firm who specialize in Taxis I managed to get a brand new rear bumper from them for the Consul as it is the same as the front of the FX4 - however beware holes are not in the same place!
  • Darcoid - Darcoid are manufacturers of die cut gaskets, and a distributor for manufacturers of rubber products, gaskets and seals. I haven't used them yet but would appreciate any feedback from people who have.
  • Ex-pressed Steel Panels Ltd - My rear quarter sections were purchased from here, they list a surprisingly large number of MK2 panels - have a look at the diagram on their site and see what I mean. Mixed reports on these panels but the ones I got were very good.
  • Flash lube - Flashlube Valve Saver Fluid is a concentrated Lead Replacement Additive formulated to minimize Valve Seat Recession (VSR) in LPG, CNG & Petrol Fuelled Vehicles. I don't use this on the Consul due to having the valve seats hardened during the engine reconditioning - however I have used it on my Mondeo successfully might be worth a look if you fancy converting to Gas.
  • Ford - The American Ford Homepage has a contact section for Ford parts - primarily aimed at new American Ford Vehicles they have been extremely courteous and prompt at providing me with suppliers who have that elusive part in stock.
  • Golden days - Okay so I haven't got a web address for this firm but they have been very useful in providing glove box inners, chrome work and even some brand new hub caps at pretty competitive prices 01603 881155.
  • Goodridge Brake Lines and Fittings - Manufacturers of Performance Brake Parts - they list brake kits for the Zephyr and Zodiac but not the Consul. Might be worth a look.
  • Guaranteed Exhausts - Manufacturers of stainless steel exhausts for vehicles including the Mark 2 range. They will produce non-listed parts if you can provide the original to work off, there machinery will not however cope with making the hockey stick. My exhaust system came from here, a very good price and a discount for club members of about 40%.
  • JC Whitney - Amazingly enough this firm offer a universal fit cruise control system which will apparently fit a MK2, certainly Patrick in Canada is hoping to fit it to his. According to Patrick "It’s a universal kit that I have installed on many cars.  The servo unit will go under the oil filled air cleaner. The linkage will be operated by an arm welded on to the end of the throttle spindle mounted on the bulkhead.  Electronic pick up is via two magnets on the driveshaft.  Cost will likely be less than 80 quid all in!  Given the very long distances it’s mandatory to avoid severe foot cramping."
  • Lincoln Land - Lincoln land have managed to find me parts but I have not actually used them, they are based in Clearwater, Florida and were recommended by Ford I believe they will ship parts - worth a look!
  • P.D Gough & Associates - Manufacturers of Stainless Steel Exhausts and provided my Hockey Stick! (pattern is in their possession)  Discount for members of the MK2 Owners Club.
  • Rare Spares another Australian spare part provider, although I have never bought parts from this company they do offer a fairly wide range of parts (particularly in rubber) for older Fords (amongst others) they can also provide windscreen seals for Hi-Line Consuls. Bob is now offering Front and Rear Quarter Light Seals as well.
  • Rossendale Road Springs - Manufacturers of leaf springs, they have the pattern for the 6 leaf Consul springs. Will make to order.
  • Smith and Deakin - Fiberglass moulders - they made the fiberglass wings for my Consul, they look really good however I find the bonnet a little difficult to shut. Probably needed to trim more off them or the inner wings.
  • Spectrum Rubber - An Australian Rubber company who make windscreen seals and other rubber components for Classic Vehicles as part of their rubber business. There is the opportunity to order on line - and they provided my Windscreen seals.
  • Superflex - A Slough based firm who make Bushes, my leaf spring bushes were made by this firm in Australia. Admittedly however I bought my bushes through Classic Ford Parts of Bracknell.
  • Team Valley Transmissions - A small firm in Washington, Tyne and Wear - also the only firm I contacted who were willing to recondition my rear axle, they also do gearboxes... (0191 415 7254)
  • Turnbull Electroplaters - A quite affordable way of getting your chrome refinished, Ashington, Northumberland.
  • Vintage Plates - Various classic number plates that you can order online - they also show you a picture of what your number plate would look like in the different styles.
  • Woolies - Trim, Upholstery and fittings for Classic Cars.

Insurance:

  • Firebond: My most recent Insurer, I switched to Firebond from Lynbrook despite being £3 more a year. Basically they offered a higher mileage (10,000 rather than 8,000 miles) for the price and were willing to insure my vehicle at what I thought was a more reasonable value.
  • Lynbrook Insurance - No longer my insurer but still worth a look, they were cheaper than Firebond and I switched to them from Tesco thereby getting fully comprehensive for £100 less than my previous cover of third party only! Also includes breakdown cover through Spectrum breakdown.
  • Tesco - Tesco car Insurance are not the cheapest option for classic cars as you get a normal policy (also third party only for older cars), but if like me you are a young driver when you start give them a shout you might be impressed.
  • Graham Sykes - I have also offered a link to Graham Sykes as they were kind enough to list a link to www.fordconsul.co.uk on their site - unfortunately I have only had one quote from them, and for me it was not competitive (four times the price of Firebond and Lynbrook) however personal circumstances vary so always worth a try!

Clubs and Fun Stuff:

  • British Saloon Car Club of Canada - A Canadian Club specialising in the 'lesser known British cars'. They cater for a wide variety of vehicles including a few Fords.
  • Classic Z Cars - An Australian site looking at the Consul Zephyr and Zodiac, includes pictures of 'Ute's' a derivation I haven't really covered here, yet...
  • Classic Ford Directory: A growing site with links to various classic ford resources - the presentation seems good and I look forward to seeing how it develops.
  • MK2 Owners Club The club website with information on how to join and contact details for some of the Club. Useful website with some links.
  • MK2 Club Events This website includes some galleries and information on the MK2 days and club events, interesting photo resource.
  • Old Timer Technik Daniel Schaub's Swiss site looking at the restoration of his MK2 Zodiac. Available in English and German.
